Cops gun down terror kingpin

NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – KENYAN police have shot dead one of the most wanted Al-Shabaab terror group suspects.
Named as Juma Mwamuraji and aged 44, the suspect was gunned down in Msambweni in the central Kwale County following operations by the officers from the Anti-terrorism police unit (ATPU) and flying squad based.
Police reported the supect had recently returned home from neighbouring Somalia where the Al-Shabaab is based and is perpetrating deadly attacks in the two countries.
A police spokesperson said the breakthrough followed intelligence reports.
“After the suspect was ordered to surrender, he confronted the officers with a hand grenade. Police opened fire.”
A hand grenade, thunder flash explosive and a detonating cord were recovered from the suspect.
Msambweni police head, Joseph Chebusi, said police had intensified anti-terror operations in the area.
“The raids will be conducted until the war on Shabaab comes to an end.”
The Islamic militant Al-Shabaab has over the years carried out attacks in Kenya in protest of the presence of Kenyan forces in a peacekeeping mission in Somalia.
