MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – A suicide bomber, thought to be young as eight years old, and another person have been killed following a suicide bomb explosion in the restive Borno State northeastern Nigeria.
The bomber was targeting a mosque in Dalori, adjacent to the University of Maiduguri, which attacked less than a month ago.
The minor detonated the explosive device at a fence to the mosque after security vigilantes at the entrance to the worship centre thwarted them.
Another person was killed during the explosion.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), spokesperson, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said the sex identity of the suicide bomber could not be ascertained as the body of the bomber was severely mangled and shredded.
“Our role is to evacuate the bodies from the scene which we have done,” he said.
It is believed the militant Islamic group Boko Haram was behind the plot to bomb the mosque.
The group has used young girls and women to carry out similar attacks in public places.
