AU mourns Kodji loss in war against Boko Haram

ADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – THE Chairperson of the African Union Commission,
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has expressed sadness at the death of General Jacob Kodji and other senior military personnel in a helicopter crash on a mission to track Boko Haram insurgents.
The tragic crash occurred near the village of Bogo in northern Cameroon.
Besides Kodji, five other military men were killed.
Until his demise, Kodji was one of the senior officials playing a leading role in the fight against the terrorist group, whose atrocities have killedthousands of refugees and millions of internally displaced persons, as well as widespread destruction in the Lake Chad Basin area.
“His valor, professionalism, and determination in the fight against this
insurgency was exemplary,” said Dlamini-Zuma in the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.
She said the deceased will always be remembered for his vital contribution
to the efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force.
The force comprises the Lake Chad Basin states plus Benin.
It is engaged in combating the Boko Haram insurgency in the region.
Dlamini-Zuma paid her condolences to the families of Kodji and other military personnel that lost their lives in this tragedy.
She expressed her commiseration to the government and people of Cameroon.
