Data sharing solution launches in Rwanda

KIGALI, (CAJ News) – A new peer-to-peer (P2P) data sharing solution with an aim to raise internet penetration and make internet easily accessible for Rwanda subscribers have been launched.
Said to be the first of its kind service, MTN Internet Me2U is a partnership between MTN Rwanda and U2opia Mobile, a mobile technology company.
MTN Internet Me2U is powered by Fonepass, U2opia mobile’s sponsored data platform, and it allows all prepaid users to share data between friends and family on the network.
Sumesh Menon, Co-founder, U2opia Mobile , says the company aims to launch technology that drives connectivity for every mobile user. With Internet and smartphones now becoming more accessible across the globe, data is now a necessity and people are growing used to staying connected.
“We, at U2opia Mobile, are excited to partner with MTN to launch MTN Internet Me2U, the P2P data sharing solution for their subscribers, as the solution brings flexibility to manage data plans and also makes data easier to reach and use,” says Menon.
MTN’s Senior Manager of Marketing Operations, Gaspard Bayigane, says with Internet access and smartphones now becoming more accessible in the market.
‘We are sure our partnership with U2oipia mobile and a solution like Me2u will help users with uninterrupted data access while they enjoy the benefits of mobile data,” says Bayigane.
MTN Internet Me2U allows data to be shared between two users, by triggering the USSD short code *825*10#.
MTN Rwanda has over 4 million subscribers, half the total subscriber base in the East African country.
