Dlamini-Zuma AU shoes too big to fill

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma

AU Commission chairwoman, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma

From ADANE BIKILA in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – FINDING it difficult to replace South Africa’ Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as the African Union Commission Chairperson (AUC), AU will convene the first-ever leadership debate for candidates contesting for the position.

The debate set for Friday will be conducted before a live audience at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Candidates contesting to replace Dlamini-Zuma are Pelonomi Venson- Moitoi of Botswana, Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad, Mba Mokuy of Equatorial Guinea, Amina Mohamed of Kenya and Abdoulaye Bathily of Senegal.

They will debate before members of the AU Executive Council, its Permanent Representatives Committee and commissioners.

In July, the aspirants failed to garner the required margin to win secure the post of AUC chairperson. Venson- Moitoi won but it was not good enough.

Dlamini-Zuma is not seeking reelection for another term amid speculation she is eyeing a post as South Africa’s president, to succeed her beleaguered former husband, Jacob Zuma. – CAJ NEWS
