BULAWAYO, (CAJ News) – THREE Zimbabwean soldiers have appeared in court in the second city of Bulawayo after allegedly killing a villager during an altercation over a bicycle.

Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda (26), Bright Nyoni (28) and an officer Mwembe (30) have been remanded in custody after appearing before a magistrate following the alleged murder of Josiah Sithole (46) in Fort Rixon, 75km north-east of the city.

It is alleged the soldiers stationed at Bulawayo 1 Brigade were from a beer drink when they found a colleague, Emmanuel Mkhize, lying drunk on a road, next to a bicycle that belonged to the deceased.

The trio failed to wake the colleague and took the bicycle for safekeeping.

Magistrate Stephen Ndlovu heard Sithole followed and claimed ownership of the cycle along the way, sparking a tussle with soldiers.

The army men allegedly assaulted him with clenched fists, boots and planks until he died on the spot.

They allegedly dumped his body in the bush.

Villagers discovered the body and made a report.

The matter has been adjourned to next Wednesday.
