HARARE, (CAJ News) – INTENSE competition in the mobile network market in Zimbabwe is set to intensify following a new campaign Econet Wireless has launched to enhance customer access to high-speed long term evolution (LTE) internet connectivity.

Econet Wireless’ exercise has culminated in the launch of hundreds of new high speed internet connectivity sites and the refurbishment of other facilities.

“The smart data campaign that Econet Wireless has launched is a result of our recent conclusion of the network modernisation project which resulted in us deploying more than 400 new LTE sites and upgrading over 250 others,” says Econet Wireless Chief Executive Officer, Douglas Mboweni.

Created by globally-renowned Zimbabwean executive, Strive Masiyiwa, in 1993 and headquartered in neighbouring South Africa, Econet Wireless is the biggest operator in Zimbabwe.

It boasts over 8 million subscribers, representing a market share of 60 percent.
