ADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – THE Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission , Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has appealed for increased global support to enable her organisation end terrorism in East Africa.

speaking at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, she condemned the latest attack that killed at least 12 people in the northeastern border town of Mandera, Kenya.

The recent attack by the Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group, Al Shabaab, has been the second in Mandera in less than three weeks.

Dlamini-Zuma assured the Government and people of Kenya of the AU’s full solidarity and support through the circumstances.

She reiterated the AU’s readiness to support Kenya and the countries of the region through the existing regional and continental mechanisms.

Dlamini-Zuma appealed to the international community to renew its commitment to defeat terror groups.

“The groups’ only agenda is to cause havoc, destruction and death,” she said.

The Somali-headquartered Al Shabaab has carried relentless attacks in neighbouring Kenya in protest of the country’s presence in the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Dlamini-Zuma requested more support for AMISOM in its quest to eliminate insurgency.
