COMESA interconnector projects gather pace

KIGALI, (CAJ News) – COMING at a time the Common Market for Southern and Eastern Africa (COMESA) is fast-tracking the implementation of a number of power generation and power inter-connector projects, high-level experts will highlight opportunities in the region during the Infrastructure Partnerships for African Development (iPAD) Rwanda Energy Infrastructure Forum.

Among the ongoing projects in the regions include the Zambia-Tanzania-Kenya, Uganda-Rwanda and Rwanda-Burundi power
inter-connector projects.

The forum will gather investors, project developers, finance houses, construction and planning companies, technology providers from Rwanda, the region and from the rest of the world as well as high-level government representatives.

Among the speakers scheduled for the event in Kigali on November 1-2 is Kipyego Cheluget, Assistant Secretary General of COMESA.

His address will focus on “Rwanda’s role in the East Africa: Pinpointing the opportunities for Rwanda.”

Other speakers lined up are Taiwo Adeniji, Senior Director, Investments Group at Africa Finance Corporation, Sam Dargan, Chief Executive Officer of Great Lakes Energy in Rwanda and Julien Jomaux, Electric Engineer at BTC Rwanda.

Apart from the crucial government endorsement, the event also enjoys widespread support from the industry. STEG International Services are returning as platinum sponsors.
