eProteas team ready for World extravaganza

JOHANNESBURG – The MSSA eProteas team will be among the 31 athletes representing African continent at this year e-Sports World Championship to be held in Indonesia capital , Jakarta .

South Africa ‘s 16 athletes will be joined by Egypt and Tunisia at the International e-Sports Federation showacase .

A total 341 participants from 32 countries have registered for IeSF’s 8 th e-Sports World Championship which will be held from 6th to 9th of October.

Mind Sports South Africa ( MSSA ) has revealed , there are 141 participants from 14 European countries, 112 participants from 11 Asian countries, 31 participants from 3 African countries, 26 participants from 2 American countries, and 21 participants from 2 Oceanic countries.

‘125 of the participants will be participating in the CounterStrike: GO title, which, when you look through the names of the competitors, you realise just how hard the competition will be.’ says MSSA Secretary General Colin Webster .

MSSA has expressed faith in the team to be lead by Jessie Joubert will represent South Africa with determination .

In the lastest IeSF World rankings showed South Africa’s eProteas team among the best top ten in the World and there brace themselves for battle at this year ‘s Championship they hope to better their previous performance .

Serbia are the current overall champions of the 7th World Championships (with Korea placing second and China taking third), South Africa did secure a few important milestones at the event.

Maryke ‘Ykie’ Kennard became the first female to captain a League of Legends team at the IeSF World Championships, and even more notably, she became the first female take the Athlete’s Oath on behalf of all participants on the request of IeSF Secretary General Mr. Alex Lim. The South Africa captain also went on to assist with shoutcasting alongside Reid ‘RAPiD’ Melton after his co-caster fell ill.
