ABUJA, (CAJ News) – SOME 20 Nigerian soldiers face a trial at the General Court Martial for alleged crimes committed against civilians during operations to eliminate the Boko Haram terrorists.

Acting General Officer, Victor Ezugwu, has inaugurated the court at the base of the Operation Lafiya Dole in the terror-prone Maiduguri in Borno State.

A total of four officers and 16 other ranks of the Nigerian Army will be charged for undisclosed violations.

It is believed these are linked to rights groups’ outcry over the years that army personnel had violated the rights of civilians during operations against the Islamic militant Boko Haram.

Ezugwu said discipline was bedrock of the military profession.

“To have a disciplined body of officers and men, there must be justice because it is when there is justice that discipline can be achieved,” he said.
