Total new official sponsor of CAF

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – TOTAL, the major oil company, is the new official sponsor of African football.

The deal with the Confederation of African Football is for the next eight years.

Total, with operations in more than 40 countries in Africa, will support ALL CAF’s principal competitions, starting with the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Renamed the Total Africa Cup of Nations, the tournament will be held in Gabon between January and February 2017.

Issa Hayatou, President of CAF, says the partnership is a major milestone in CAF’s ongoing search for additional resources to accelerate African football’s development, bring its governance up to date, upgrade its sports infrastructure and advance its performance globally.

“As a leading multinational in its field, with strong ties to Africa, Total will make a significant contribution to CAF’s initiatives to foster personal and professional growth for young Africans,” Hayatou.

Patrick Pouyanné, President and Chief Executive Officer of Total, says through this commitment, they hope to strengthen ties to the company’s stakeholders and customers.
