JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – ECONET Media has acquired the exclusive English language rights to all live Aviva Premiership Rugby matches for Sub-Saharan Africa for its Kwesé Sports-branded platforms.

The deal, which excludes South Africa, also gives Kwesé Sports the non-exclusive rights to the English-language weekly highlights programmes across the same region.

In total, Econet Media’s Kwesé Sports plans to broadcast more than 100 matches per season, including on its satellite and internet-based services as these are launched.

Dominic Hayes, Premiership Rugby’s Commercial Director, says Aviva Premiership Rugby is enthusiastic about their dynamic new partnership with Kwesé Sports.

“We have just enjoyed a compelling year, with Saracens achieving a memorable Aviva Premiership and European Champions Cup double and we anticipate that next season will be the most competitive season in our history,” Hayes says.

Chief Executive Officer of Econet Media, Joseph Hundah, says they continue to grow their sports line-up as an essential component of the different products they are developing and are focused on ensuring a diverse range of sport is showcased.

To date, the company has inked agreements with the English Premier League, National Basketball Association, Spain’s Copa Del Rey as well as with Cricket Australia.
