New Gauteng Guardian Editor, Patience Rusere

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – GAUTENG Guardian, the province’s premier weekly newspaper, has appointed award-winning journalist, Ms Patience Rurusere, as its new Editor.

The appointment is with immediate effect.

Gauteng Guardian and CAJ News Africa CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Savious-Parker Kwinika made the announcement this week.

“It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Ms Patience Rusere as our new Editor. Rusere’s presence, based on her vast experience, will definitely boost our strategic focus, enhances future digital projections as well as ensure our growth.

“It is noteworthy Gauteng Guardia operates in the country’s economic hub, hence our thrust on entrepreneurship, innovation and service delivery. Her coming in will enhance our wide coverage in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Metsweding, Sedibeng, Tshwane and the West Rand,” said Kwinika.

Responding to her appointment, Rusere said, “I am honoured to be part of a renowned newspaper like Gauteng Guardian and would like to promise readers and advertisers a product that will give them value for money.

“The province, largely because it is the country’s economic hub, deserves to get coverage and reach that befits its size. I hope to able to steer the newspaper to greater heights and make it one of the best in the country.”

She boasts vast experience in print, broadcast and online media.

Rusere, whose previous stints have been in the United States of America and United Kingdom, brings with her wealth of journalistic experience to the ambitious weekly newspaper.

Prominently, she worked as an International Broadcaster at Voice of America (VOA) in Washington DC.

Before joining Gauteng Guardian, Rusere also worked for eNCA as Online News Duty Editor/TV Producer, Co-ordinator for ChannelZim Radio Project in USA and UK. She was Dash-Sub-Editor for Business Times and Sowetan.

She worked for eNCA, one of South Africa’s largest television stations as a TV producer and Duty Online editor.

She also worked in different roles in Zimbabwe where she served as Deputy News Editor for The Chronicle, worked for that country’s largest financial newspaper, The Financial Gazette, and freelanced for Inter Press Group (IPS) as well as the Drum Magazine.

Following the appointment, incumbent Editor, Ms Naledi Modise assumes a new role as Managing Editor while Pretoria Bureau Chief, Mr Simba Rushwaya, becomes substantive News Editor.

Tsakani Chauke takes over the Pretoria Bureau.
