Gauteng launches Youth Month programme

JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Gauteng Provincial Government has released its programme for the 40th anniversary of the Soweto uprising.

The programmes take cognisance that this takes place in the 22nd years of the democratic dispensation and in the 20th year of the Constitution.

Among activities lines up include the second Gauteng Province Youth Career, Jobs and Entrepreneurship Expo where more than 200 exhibitors have confirmed participation. It is scheduled for Nasrec from June 10 – 19, daily, except 16 June.

A series of dialogues have been arranged to interact with and learn from young people. They will also serve as a platform for government leadership to communicate programmes and activities aimed at young people.

The dialogues include the Inaugural June 16 Memorial Lecture hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to be delivered by Sibongile Mkhabela, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and a 1976 student leader and veteran.

Premier David Makhura will host a breakfast with young professionals born in 1976.

He will use the platform to communicate the vision for Gauteng and encourage them to make their contribution and get their proposals.

Some 400 young professionals will attend.

Onn Juen 16, Youth Day, Gauteng aims to fill up Orlando Stadium for the national rally to be addressed by President Jacob Zuma.

The youth month programme will culminate in the Premiers Youth Service and Excellence Awards on 30 June, at Mogale City.

The youth month programme aims to reach 100 000 young people.
