CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – CHIHWA Tours, the transport operator, will next month introduce a direct route linking Cape Town, the South African city, and Zimbabwe’s second largest city of Bulawayo.

This follows demand from travelers from the western region of Zimbabwe as transport problems peak particularly over the holidays.

The company has been running direct routes from Cape Town to Gweru, Harare and Mutare in Zimbabwe.

“The idea to introduce a new direct route to Zimbabwe was mooted after noticing the suffering that Zimbabweans had to go through when trying to find their way back home for holidays.

“Many Zimbabweans used to hike along the N1 road where they exposed themselves to criminals,” said Chihwa Tours proprietor, Jackson Mukahanana, said.

Mukahanana thanked the Zimbabwean community in Cape Town for the massive support it has shown ahead of the launch of the new service assuring the company would keep improving its service to customers.

Chihwa Tours which started operations with only a single bus in 2012 is the first bus company to operate a direct route that connects Cape Town and Zimbabwe.

The Bellville-based transporter now runs a fleet of over six coaches.

Mukahanana added the company was working on acquiring new luxury coaches in future.

The growth of the service has been attributed to the significant support by Zimbabweans.
