Future champs return for more glory
PRETORIA , (CAJ News) – FOUR former winners from four different continents will be among the contestants in what is set to be a thrilling Future Champions Gauteng international tournament.
Brazilian side, Clube Atletico Mineiro returns for a fifth time to the tournament eager to add on to back-to-back titles inners in 2011 and 2012.
They will be among the favourites again this year bringing their legendary Samba style and a glimpse at the future stars of Brazilian football.
Mexican side Club Tijuana, who lifted the 2013 title, are back for a third time as are 2010 Future Champions Gauteng winners, Shandong Luneng, the Chinese outfit.
Defending champions Torino from Italy, will be back eager to retain the tournament they won at the first attempt last year.
Last year’s top-scorer in the tournament, Matteo Tobaldo, who netted four goals has been elevated to the club’s Under-19 team this season.
The four former winners, who will play the best Under-17 teams from the province, will each be the top seeds in their first-round pools at the 16-team Future Champions Gauteng event that will be staged at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto, from March 14-19.
Entrance to the matches will be free.
