Kenyan recruiters should embrace technology

NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – KENYAN companies have been urged to use technology tools to add value to their recruitment processes.

An industry expert, Garhard Hartman, said the companies should make the most of social media, online portals and platforms, mobile applications
and video interviews.

Hartman, who is also the Head of Department: Sage Human Resources and Payroll International Division, said this had become necessary after research indicated more than 70 of Kenyan employers receive too many job applications that need extra time and cost to screen.

This emerged from the Corporate Staffing Services survey.

“In this context, it is important for recruitment agencies and corporate HR departments to make smart use of technology to make the recruitment process more efficient and cost-effective. There are many tools that can streamline the recruitment process, from managing job applicants and filtering CVs, to interviewing and screening candidates, and right up to the onboarding process,” said Hartman.

He noted more people were looking for jobs using social media while many Kenyans had smartphones.

In addition, online platforms such as Sage SkillsMap gave companies direct access to people, who were looking for jobs, in Africa and abroad.

“Remember, technology is there to add value for the recruiter, not to replace him or her,” concluded Hartman.
