Abuja meeting urges Africa urban developers to uniteFrom EMEKA OKONKWO in Abuja, Nigeria
ABUJA, (CAJ News) -AHEAD of a key United Nations conference, stakeholders  from the continent have been urged to articulate a common position regarding sustainable urban development in the continent.

This was the prevailing message at the ongoing Habitat III Africa Regional Meeting in Abuja.

Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Mustapha Baba Shehuri,  who opened the event on behalf of the Federal Government, said Africans should speak with one voice.

He said stakeholders should maintain that solidarity for the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) conference in Quito, Ecuador, in October. Shehuri said the meeting in Abuja was thus a milestone.

An array of personalities from the African region, drawn from academia, civil societies and heads of delegation from the United Nations Habitat secretariat in New York and Nairobi, are attending.

The aim of the meeting is to discuss African priorities for sustainable
urban development.

The outcome of this meeting will form a common position for the continent.
