Southeast airports set for revamp
ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, pledged to look into the conditions of southeastern Nigeria ‘s Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport Akanu Ibiam International Airport and effect repairs .
Concern has been raised at the dilapidating standards at the two airports in Owerri and Enugu respectively.
Continuing, the minister called for stakeholders to partner to ensure aviation in the Southeast zone was well catered for in order to promote trade and commerce.
The minister pointed out that aviation was key to ensure development in the eastern parts as the area was landlocked.
“I cannot understand why airplanes cannot land at the airports because of poor visibility,” said the minister.
The minister spoke after a delegation of the South East Progressive Forum paid him a courtesy in his office in Abuja.
The Chairman of the South East Progressive Forum, Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi, earlier, while congratulating the minister on his appointment, said that the organisation believe d the minister’s vision for the growth of Nigeria was in line with what it stood for.
Amadi said the focus of the forum was seeing to the development and progress of the South East region and Nigeria as a whole.
“The Forum has keyed into the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration vision for a new Nigeria and has worked to promote the need of partnership and unity,” said Amadi.
