Daudu in historic WRC appointment

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIAN Festus Daudu has emerged as head of the World Radio Communications (WRC) Council, a unit of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Tony Ojobo, Director Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), confirmed the elevation of the official, who is currently the Director Spectrum Administration at the Federal Ministry of Communications Technology.

Daudu is first African to head the World Radio Communications (WRC) Council.

In his inaugural speech at the opening ceremony of the WRC 2015, at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, thanked the Government and people of Nigeria for making this possible.

He has assured the gathering he would do his utmost best to fulfil the mandate given to him, pledging to be fair and impartial in his dealings.

Daudu stressed the conference was one of the most important conferences of the union.

It is examining a large number of important and sensitive issues.

These range from mobile broadband communications, broadband satellite systems to emergency communications, disaster relief including issues relating to maritime and aeronautical communications.

The unit is monitoring the environment and climate change.
