ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIA’s leading veteran badminton players will converge in Abuja next month for a tournament the Citygate Badminton Club is set to host.

The event is scheduled for November 13 to 14 at the Abuja National Stadium Gymnasium.

Benedict Nwakalor, the club secretary who is also one of the coordinators of the event, said preparations were in top gear.

“Citygate Badminton Club is ready to host the biggest veteran competition in the country,” he said.

He added that badminton is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and many Nigerians are taking up the sport at both professional and amateur level.

Since the sport was introduced as an event in the All Africa Games, the Nigerian team has been one of the most successful having won over 30 medals.

The two-Day event is expected to bring together veteran clubs from all over the country, and in addition to competing for laurels, they will also deliberate on how to enhance the growth of the sport.
