ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIAN companies have been challenged to keep pace with evolving technological trends to maintain profitability.

Technology expert, Magnus Nmonwu, warned that companies in Nigeria and the rest of the region would be at a serious disadvantage to their competitors if they did not embrace the digital world.

He referred to statistics the Nigerian Communications Commission provided.

“With more than 93 million Internet users in Nigeria alone , the region’s people form a formidable digital marketplace,” he said.

Nmonwu pointed out in Nigeria, Facebook, the social networking site, had more than 15 million monthly active users.

“These Internet users want the speed, simplicity and convenience of buying goods and services right from their mobile phones.

“As employees, they want mobile and Web tools to help them do their jobs – from anywhere at any time,” said Nmonwu.

“Businesses that don’t keep up with changing consumer and employee behaviour will lose ground to their competitors.”

According to Nmonwu, companies that want to stay ahead of the trend towards online business need to put modern business solutions in place that are ready for the mobility.

The Internet of Things, analytics, and other digital technologies that are transforming the business environment were mentioned.

Nmonwu is the Regional Director for Sage West Africa, the business software firm.
