Mobile app moves ANC with the ties
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SOUTH Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has launched a mobile phone application to increase engagements with delegates at the fourth National General Council (NGC).
The app, which is to be downloaded from Apple’s App Store and the GooglePlay store, is expected to enable delegates to access discussion documents, session information, conference reports and other relevant documentation.
ANC National Spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, said that the launch of the NGC appwas part of the ANC’s broader media strategy that prioritises the use ofdigital tools to reach out to its membership and the public at large.
The digital media strategy dubbed, “Connect. Engage. Hear”, embraces alltools of digital media engagement, including mobile, email and smartdevices – in addition to traditional platforms already being utilized bythe ANC.
“Embracing digital communication tools, particularly mobile, as part ofthe organization’s communications drive is in furtherance of the 53rd National Conference resolution that “urgent and practical steps must betaken to professionalize and modernize the operations of the ANC,” said Kodwa.
“The launch of this app is part of our broader strategy to remain at thecutting edge of political communications, but at the same time ensure thatour commitment to inclusive, transparent and participatory democracy is prioritised.”
Among the unique features of the new app is that it allows users to posequestions to and exchange views on the proceedings.Questions and comments will be collated for consideration in the finalconference reports.
This process will be undertaken by the on-site ANC Information and Publicity team working together with the Drafting Team.
“The new interactive ANC NGC app also enables registered users topersonalize their schedules and share contact information with otherdelegates. Organisers will be able to send push notifications toregistered delegates on schedules, upcoming sessions and other NGC information.
”The ANC NGC ends on Sunday.
