Britain reiterates resolve to thwart Boko Haram


ABUJA, (CAJ News) –  BRITAIN ‘S Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to assist Nigeria eliminate the Boko Haram.

He made the commitment following a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Houghton said under the Buhari presidency, Nigeria had a huge opportunity to make progress in the fight against Boko Haram.

He welcomed progress made Nigeria had made in the war against terrorism under Buhari and assured the President Britain would continue to support the Federal Government’s efforts in that regard.

“We will also help to ensure that the causes of insurgency are removed. Beyond the military dimension, we are also interested in the stabilization dimension,” Houghton said.

Buhari reaffirmed his administration’s determination to end the Boko Haram insurgency as quickly as possible.

The insurgency has claimed the lives of thousands of people and displaced some 2 million people.
