JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – A lead custodian of black professional interests and some financial advisory services providers have announced a partnership focused on providing emerging South African investment professionals training and exposure in the management of global assets.

The collaboration between Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), BlackRock and 27four Investment Managers (27four) is a skills development programme focused on providing emerging South African investment professionals training and exposure in the management of global assets.

As part of the initiative, two individuals will be selected annually to attend one of the BlackRock Education Academy’s global training courses. Individuals will be selected from the pool of winners of the annual ABSIP Final Sector Awards and the 27four Black Emerging Asset Manager Programme.

“As ABSIP, we are encouraged by the commitment of BlackRock a global leader in asset management to foster an international collaboration through skills development and entrepreneurship both of which is high on our agenda,” commented Tryphosa Ramano, President of ABSIP.

Barbara Vintcent, Director at BlackRock, said her company had been investing in the South African market and managing global assets for clients in the country for over two decades.

“More recently BlackRock opened an office here to be even closer to the local investment community. We are delighted to be part of this initiative to support investment talent and to further the professional growth of the local asset management industry,” she said.

Fatima Vawda, Managing Director of 27four Investment Managers, said research had identified the need to build global asset management capability amongst Black investment professionals.

“This collaboration would catapult our efforts in filling this gap and so we are extremely thrilled and supportive of this initiative,” said Vawda.

The partnership coincides with ABSIP’s 20th anniversary. ABSIP is a lead custodian of black professional interests and black business in the Financial Services Sector.
