Joburg commited to sustainable mobility
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE world’s second Ecomobility World Festival has resumed in Johannesburg.
The month-long event coincides with South Africa’s Transport Month.
Johannesburg is the first city in the southern hemisphere to host the international event where the focus is on solutions to build urban transport systems that can meet the need of residents while reducing energy consumption and emissions.
The festival is aimed at giving residents, businesses and commuters a taste of both the history and the future of mobility.
It will host a world-class, international EcoMobility Exhibition.
Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Parks Tau, said the EcoMobility Dialogues, brought together leading thinkers and decision makers to discuss options on promoting sustainable mobility.
“Our aim is to encourage participation and creative thinking around the issue of EcoMobility and show that Johannesburg is determined to combat climate change,” he added.
Tau said the EcoMobility Festival would influence the global debates about climate change, carbon emissions and suatainable transport models for the future.
A final Johannesburg Declaration on EcoMobility and Climate Smart Cities will be released at the conclusion of the event and presented to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in France in December.
