NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – BUSINESS leaders from the continent have converged in Nairobi for the Chief Executive Officers’ Cocktail Networking event.

This year, the annual event is focusing majorly on security, featuring briefings on the latest cyber threats to the financial services sector, with practical demonstrations, a master-class, expert presentations and panel discussions to pool the knowledge and experience among peers facing common challenges.

Themed “Inspire, Innovate and Implement”, the two-day event began on Tuesday.

Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, Henry Rotich, was scheduled to officially open the event.

Officials are drawn from such countries as Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

Coming a month after US President Barack Obama hosted the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi, the conference intends to challenge banking leaders to adopt innovative business strategies and technologies to promote financial inclusion, maximise customer service, drive down costs – and ultimately contribute to achieving the vision of developing Nairobi as an international centre of excellence for financial services.

Meanwhile, Africa’s leading mobile payments ecosystem, Cellulant, is serving as sponsor and host of the CEO Cocktail Networking.

“Currently, the mobile payments ecosystem is still very much fragmented. We need to start thinking of mobile payment ecosystems as basic infrastructure just like roads, ports etc. At the core of building this infrastructure is the need to ensure that customers across Africa are getting the best value out of their money,” stated Cellulant’s Group CEO, Ken Njoroge.

“We are happy to be taking part in this very important discussion on the trends and strategies for increasing usage of mobile money and strengthening the mobile banking ecosystem.”

Key topics in the conference include Core Systems Modernisation, Systems & Management, New Payment Channels, Business Process, M-Insurance, Virtualisation & Cloud Systems and Consumer Engagement.
