Delta Speaker denounces bribery allegations
ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Monday Igbuya, has refuted allegations he and some People’s Democratic Party(PDP) legislators offered bribes to Election Tribunal judges to rule in their favour.
It was reported these had contributed N5 million each to influence the panel.Henry Ebireri, Igbuya’s Chief Press Secretary, dismissed the reports as“wicked,” “baseless” and “reckless.”
“The Delta State House of Assembly Speaker is an honest and highlyeffective speaker. He has built a reputation anchored on integrity overthe years,” Igbuya’s spokesperson said in Asaba.
Ebireri accused some members of the opposition, seemingly referring to the All progressives Congress, of putting personal interest above those of the people and the state.
He described the allegations as “nonsense.”
He also appealed to journalists and politicians to protect Igbuya from alleged undue harassment by “self-seeking elements whose stock in trade is to hide under the banner of the media to bring down their imaginary or perceived opponents.”
APC is challenging the outcome of the polls held earlier this year.Recently, the party alleged a plot to influence the ruling of the panelprobing the disputed election process.
