Kenya ready for SEED Symposium 2015

NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – TRAILBLAZING eco-entrepreneurs who bring social and environmental benefits with their innovative business models will be recognised at an event scheduled for Nairobi on Wednesday.

Launched in 2005 by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Union for Conservation of Nature, the SEED Awards recognize inspiring social and environmental entrepreneurs whose grassroots businesses in developing countries help to meet sustainable development challenges.

This year’s winners, to be announced at the SEED Africa Symposium, include an innovative company manufacturing plates from fallen leaves, an initiative engaging impoverished women in producing fuel-efficient stoves for refugee camps, and a construction business that uses non-flammable bricks made of plastic waste.

SEED this year will make available up to 23 Africa Awards to enterprises in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda; six South Africa Awards to enterprises in South Africa, with up to three of them to enterprises in the provinces of Free State, Limpopo or KwaZulu-Natal and two Gender Equality Awards to enterprises in countries that are not Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development or European Union member countries as well as one of them to an enterprise in Kenya .

High-level representatives from Government and UN agencies will attend the SEED Africa Symposium.
