JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE continent’s top ranked teams face tricky assignments when the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers resume this weekend.Most of the teams in the top ten are away from home.
To kick start their qualification campaign, Nigeria travel to Tanzania while West African rivals Ghana are way to Rwanda in Kigali in matches for Friday.
Other matches scheduled for Friday include Madagascar against Angola while Kenya host former African champions Zambia in Nairobi.
On Saturday, Africa’s second ranked nation in the continent, Ivory Coast, who are the defending champions, will be away to Sierra Leone.Tunisia will be away to Liberia, Senegal away to Namibia while Africa’s fifth-ranked side, Congo will be away to Guinea-Bissau.
Other top ten FIFA ranked nations playing away from home on Saturday are Cape Verde, who will be away to Libya.
On Sunday, Africa’s FIFA highly ranked nation Algeria will be away to Lesotho.Former champions Egypt will be away in Chad.Among the rank outsiders, on Saturday South Africaare away to Mauritania, Zimbabwe host Guinea, Djibouti entertain Togo while Central African Republic host Congo DR.New kids on the block, South Sudan, welcome Equatorial Guinea, Comoros host Uganda while Sao Tome entertain Morocco.
Nonentities Mauritius play Mozambique, Gabon host Sudan, Burundi host Niger while Swaziland entertain Malawi with Gambia hosting Cameroon.Other Saturday matches include Seychelles against Ethiopia while Botswana host Burkina Faso. The AFCON 2017 will be held in Gabon.
