MDC Reserve League launchedBy TINTSWALO BALOYI
JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE second edition of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) has been launched in Johannesburg.
The tournament, a brainchild of MultiChoice and the Premier Soccer League, will kick off with a festival weekend at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, Gauteng on September 5.
MDC is a Corporate Investment (CSI) programme which includes a reserve league of all 16 clubs playing in the Premier Division, life skills and leadership development for players, live coverage of the matches produced by interns, scholarships for players and production interns, as well as free broadcast rights of the matches by community television channels on DStv.
The groundbreaking initiative is a three-year partnership with the PSL with the focus on building the PSL’s Reserve League in order to fast track the clubs’s under 23 players into their first teams. Teams are also allowed to field a maximum of three players over the age of 23 in their starting XI.
Imtiaz Patel, Group Chief Executive Officer for MultiChoice South Africa said they were looking forward to unleash the next football sensation in the second season of the Diski tournament.
He lauded the success of the first edition that produced breakout stars like Menzi Masuku who is now a regular pick in the Orlando Pirates starting lineup and was awarded goal of the season at the PSL Awards, Hendrick Ekstein of Kaizer Chiefs who is hailed as the player to watch this season in the PSL and Denwin Farmer who recently made his PSL debut for SuperSport United in a win against Orlando Pirates.
Those are just some of the many accolades and achievements that we are proud of and we celebrate in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, added Patel.
University of Pretoria are the defending champions.
