Nigeria Army refutes Yobe alleged massacres

ABUJA, (CAJ News) –THE alleged massacre and drowning of over 100 civilians in Kukuwa – Gari in Gulani local government area of Yobe State as reported in some Nigerian media cannot be substantiated.

This is the position of the Nigerian Army following such reports linked to the Boko Haram insurgency in the area.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, assured the public the Army was committed to the fight against Boko Haram terrorists and ensuring security for law abiding citizens in the affected areas.

“Following reports and distressed calls about suspected movements and planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists around Damasak general area, the Nigerian Air Force conducted air surveillance and armed reccoinaissance, while the Nigerian Army troops have been reinforced,” Usman said.

He said the stories going round the media of alleged massacre and drowning of civilians in Kukuwa-Gari, Gujba, Yobe State, as reported in some media could not be substantiated.

“The general public is hereby assured of Nigerian Army’s commitment in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists and ensuring security for law abiding citizens in the affected areas,” Usman said.
