Nigeria consults Germany to revive football fortunes

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is formalising relationships with current world champions, Germany, in an effort to reclaim local teams’ glory.
The decision was taken during a courtesy visit by top officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by the President, Amaju Pinnick, to German Ambassador to Nigeria, Dietmar Kreusel.
The NFF officials praised the giant marks Germany had made in world football.
“Germany are not only the reigning champions of the world in football, the country is also a very strong economic power,” said Pinnick.
“We have come here to express our intention to make Germany our model for development of the game of football.”
He said NFF was keen to partner with the DFB (Germany Football Federation) and the German League.
“The NFF is presently doing a lot in the area of development of the game in Nigeria. Now, we are requesting for support for our development programmes for women’s football, as well as capacity building for our referees and coaches,” Pinnick said.
He underscored the importance of Nigeria in the comity of nations, and reiterated that the emphasis of the present NFF administration on youth development and making the League the main hub for the national teams.
Germany are former European champions and ever-present in the men’s and women’s World Cups.
