ABUJA, CAJ News-The Nigerian Army has launched new operational code for war on Boko Haram. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai renamed the operational code for the ongoing war on the Boko Haram from Zaman Lafiya (Living in Peace) to Lafiya Dole (Peace a Must) during his tour of the military formations in the troubled Northeastern region of the country.
The Chief of Army Staff who was accompanied by the Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha and other service chiefs to the 103 battalion Konduga where the new operational code was launched amidst cheering soldiers.
“The ongoing activities of Boko Haram is assuming an alarming dimensions in Borno and other parts of the north east, we will not tolerate the killing of citizens and destruction of property, in as much as we urged you (troops) to adhere strictly to human rights, the time to crush Boko Haram and other criminal activities in this country is now or never “, Buratai said.
“As Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this “Operation Lafiya Dole” to end the madness of Boko Haram, if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation. My doors will always remain open to all of you for constructive criticism and advices towards restoration of peace in this part of the country. Therefore, we are here to identify with you and to officially inform you that as from today henceforth, we have changed our Operational Code from Operation Zaman Lafiya to ‘ Operation Lafiya Dole” Buratai added .
He appealed to the troops and other security agencies as well as the general public to collaborate with one another to end the menace of Boko Haram and other criminal activities in the region and the country as a whole.
Buratai insisted that there is need for change of strategies to win the counter-insurgency war against the Boko Haram. He said the war on the insurgency must be won but with respect for human rights and rules of engagement.
The Chief of Army Staff who had earlier celebrated the Eid-El-Fitri with soldiers in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, said he took time to spend the sallah holiday in Borno and Yobe states so as to meet with troops who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the north east sub region.
He emphasized that without cooperation, determination and discipline among all and sundry, it would be difficult to defeat terrorism, and therefore solicited the necessary support from the troops to crush insurgency.
Borno State Deputy Governor Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha thanked the Army Chief and the General Officers Commanding 7 and 3 Divisions for taking their time to visit the state to see the gallant troops.
He promised that the state government will continue to support the military and other security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram that sacked almost 22 local government areas of the state with thousands of people mostly villagers killed and millions displaced.
