PRETORIA, (CAJ News) – ABSA Premiership hopefuls, Mamelodi Sundowns, have won the annual Charity Showdown after a convincing victory over Ajax Cape Town.

The Pretoria outfit beat the youthful Cape Town side 3-1 in an exciting decider played at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, outside Pretoria on Sunday.

Zimbabwean hotshot Curthbert Malajila scored a brace to steer the former league champions to victory, with Liberian forward Anthony Laffor’s header sandwiched in between Malajila’s efforts.

The visiting team got a consolation through an own goal by defender Mario Booysen to tie the game one-all at some stage.

Earlier, Mamelodi Sundowns had booked a berth in the final with a 2-0 victory over neighbours University of Pretoria. Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat and Teko Modise netted.

Ajax dismissed Premiership returnees Jomo Cosmos with a similar scoreline in the other semifinal, Bantu Mzwakali the hero with a well-taken brace.
