JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – SKYWISE, the low-cost airline, has announced a special promotion with tickets for flights between Johannesburg – Cape Town costing a lowly R466,64, all-inclusive, in support of Nelson Mandela Day this Saturday.

The fare is based on 46664, Mandela’s prison number at his second imprisonment in Robben Island in 1964. He was the 466th prisoner that year.

A total of 4 600 have been made available with ticket sales on a first-come-first-saved basis for two days from 17 July. The number of flights is eight daily between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The promotion is based on the globally acclaimed prison number that belonged to the iconic and late Mandela during his confinement at Robben Island outside Cape Town.

Tickets are available at Skywise offices or cab be purchased online at

“This is a very special fare in honour of my grandfather who was renowned for his humanitarian and caring nature.

“Skywise is showing that like Madiba, it greatly cares for its customers to save on the pockets,” said Brand Ambassador, Ndileka Mandela.

Skywise is the latest low-cost-carrier to come out of South Africa, having launched with a commercial flight in February 11.

In line with Mandela’s love for children, that flight was sponsored to carry 2014 Matric passers from Kgamane High School, Marapyane, Mpumalanga.

They were accompanied by more children from the Thembekile Mandela Foundation, founded by Ndileka Mandela, the grand-daughter of “Madiba.”

Currently flights are four times daily on this route, with a total of 52 flights per week. Look out for additional routes to be announced shortly.

Tabassum Qadir and J Malik lead Skywise as co-Chairs with Johan Borstlap as Chief Executive Officer.
