JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Department of Small Business and
Development hopes the historic 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) will enhance the City of Johannesburg’s profile as a world-class African city, business events destination and economic hub.
The City of Johannesburg, which has hosted a number of historic events, will host the GEC.
“The City of Gold” is the capital of Gauteng Province. It contributes 10 percent of Africa’s Gross Domestic Product and 33 percent into the national fiscus.
Earlier this year, South Africa has achieved another milestone by securing the rights to host the 2017 GEC.
Like previous other international events the country has hosted, it is the first time the global event will be held in the continent.
The securing of the rights came after Minister of Small Business and Development Lindiwe Zulu led a bidding team that comprised, among others Councillor Ruby Mathang , Member of the Executive Committee of Economic Development in the City of Johannesburg , Jonathan Ortams, who is also the President of the Global Entrepreneurship Network.
The congress will focus on hosting African entrepreneurs, innovators and inventors.
The GEC is said to be the world’s largest gathering of innovators and job creators.
It is a platform to launch to startups that bring life, drive
economic growth and expand human welfare.
