LAGOS, (CAJ News) – UNITED States Deputy Secretary of State, AntonyBlinken, is later today scheduled to meet with a wide range of government officials and non-governmental experts to discuss key political, economic, and security issues in Nigeria.

Blinken is scheduled to meet with senior government officials in Abuja to discuss expanding cooperation on our shared priorities ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s scheduled visit to Washington later this month.

He will also meet with civil society representatives and alumni of the
President’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

Senior officials from the Treasury Department, Department of Defense, and United States Agency for International Development are scheduled to
accompany Blinken in Nigeria.

Blinken will then travel to Niamey, Chad on Thursday to meet senior
officials and civil society representatives.

In particular, the Deputy will emphasize his country’s critical security
cooperation with Niger and the importance both our countries place on
countering violent extremism in the region.
