N20 million dud cheque lands man in legal trouble

LAGOS, (CAJ News) – A Nigerian man has appeared at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi for issuing a dud cheque to the tune of N20 million in a controversial land transaction.

Raymond Duke Haruna has been arraigned before Justice Agbaza of on an
11-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque and obtaining money
under false pretence.

Haruna was alleged to have collected N20 million from one Godwin Maduka
as payment for a plot of land at an estate in Wuye District of Abuja
belonging to Dove House Investment, which the accused runs.

It is alleged he however breached the agreement as he was unable to get
Maduka the plot of land for which he had been paid.

Maduka, subsequently demanded for a refund, which Haruna paid in the form of a dud cheque.

The incidents are said to have happened in 2010 in Abuja.

The accused is pleading not guilty to the charges.

Justice Agbaza, has adjourned the case to September 23 and 24 for trial.
