DURBAN, (CAJ News) – KWAZULU-Natal Police have welcomed the heavy sentences imposed on two rapists in the province.

The convicts Cyprian Ndlovu (20) and Sanele Ngcobo (22) appeared on Wednesday at the Pietermaritzburg High Court for several counts of rape and theft charges.

Ndlovu was sentenced to seven life imprisonment for seven counts of rape. His co-accused, Sanele Ngcobo was sentenced to five life imprisonment for five counts of rape and a further 12 months for theft.

They were convicted of the rape of an 18-year-old victim.

The violation occurred in April last year.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, hailed the conviction and sentences.

“This will send a strong message to other criminals who commit such crimes and think that they will evade the arrest.

“I also want to thank all witnesses who bravely gave evidence that assisted in making sure that the accused are convicted,” she said.
