KIGALI, (CAJ News) – RWANDA Air is set to roll-out what is envisaged as Africa’s first payment technology for its clients.

The offering is in partnership with Ecobank.

Officials said the programme was aimed at making life better for the airline’s travellers across the continent and internationally.

The new offering, dubbed RwandAirDreamMiles, will roll-out first in the country in July before spreading to other parts of the continent where the airline has offices and partnerships.

The initial implementation would only benefit RwandAirDreamMiles card holders, who will be powered by GlobalTravelWallet technology Visa Prepaid Card Feature to the airliner’s membership cards in order to facilitate Payments and Currency Exchange on the Go!

RwandAir Chief Executive Officer, John Mirenge, said the new loyalty programme would provide features and benefits that would enhance the value to its members.

“The new innovative, RwandAirDreamMilesGlobalTravelWallet card combines the functionality of a reloadable payment card with the benefits of DreamMiles membership in a single piece of plastic, a first in loyalty and travel payments in Sub-Saharan Africa,” Mirenge said.

RwandAirDreamMiles, the award-winning airline loyalty programme, and Card Programs International (CPI), a card programme management and payment product innovations company, has partnered with Ecobank, the leading Pan African Bank, to launch the new RwandAirDreamMilesVISA GlobalTravelWallet™ card.

The card includes a reloadable prepaid Visa account feature that lets travellers earn DreamMiles as they shop at Visa merchants worldwide – a first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
