NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – ATHLETICS Kenya (AK) has announced strong marathon teams for the 15th International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships scheduled for Beijing, China in August.

Having flopped at the Bahamas World Relays, Kenya is looking to redeem the East African nation’s pride in the international athletics event.

Among the eleven member athletics team, six men and five women is the world marathon record holder Dennis Kimetto.

Kimetto and veteran athlete Wilson Kipsang carry hopes for the men’s team, which includes hard running Mark Korir, Felix Kipchichir, Lucas Kimeli and Luka Kanda.

In the women’s squad, Edna Kiplagat will lead the five-member squad including Jemimah Sumgong, Helah Kiprop, Visiline Jepkesho and Janet Rono.

Kenya’s dominance will be under severe challenge from fellow African long distance rival such as Ethiopia, Uganda and Eritrea, who are also sending powerful teams to Beijing.
