Namibian striker dribbles past two Zimbabwean defenders in a Cosafa tie on Thursday evening

RUSTENBURG, (CAJ News) – A SHOCK 4-1 loss to Namibia has eliminated Zimbabwe from the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup.

Chris Katjiukua, Deon Hotto (brace) and Sadney Urikhob at the Moruleng Stadium on Thursday evening saw Namibia stormed into the quarterfinals at the expense of the former winners, who had to settle for second and an early trip home.

Zimbabwe’s Raphael Manuvire scored a face-saver from the penalty spot.

Namibia have advanced advance to the Last 8 where they will take on defending champions Zambia at the same venue they beat Zimbabwe.

The match is slated for Sunday.

Meanwhile, another match in Group A saw Mauritius restore some pride with a 1-0 win over fellow Indian Ocean side Seychelles.

The game looked to be heading for a stalemate before Jean-Pierre Sophie found the back of the net with six minutes to go.

The Mauritians finished third in the pool with their victory.
