Mobile subscribers crowd Corps emergency line

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) blamed clients of a mobile network operator for crowding the Corps’ toll-free emergency line.
Corps Public Education Officer, Imoh Etuk, said calls by motorists and other road users through the line (122), often do not get across to the call agents at the FRSC Call Centre.
He blamed the setback on Airtel subscribers who erroneously believed the line was still the Airtel customer care line.
Etuk informed motorists and the general public that the same line, which was formerly an Airtel customer care line, was duly assigned to the FFRSC since July 2012, in response to the Corps’ quest to scale up its rescue services through seamless interface with the Nigerian motoring public.
“For avoidance of doubt, the general public should note that sequel to the acquisition of the toll free emergency (122) line by the FRSC, it therefore ceases to be used by the Airtel rather, the code number for the Airtel customer care is now 111,” Etuk said.
He added that the notice was necessary due to congestion of the line by non related calls as the line is dedicated to motorists and other categories of road users to draw the attention of the Corps to traffic situations, especially where there were gridlocks, obstructions, road crashes and other traffic-related challenges.
