City Power’s Xulu named African Utility Executive of the Year

CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – CITY Power Managing Director, Sicelo Xulu, has been named the African Utility Executive of the Year.

The executive of the South African firm received the most prominent accolade given out at the African Utility Week Industry Awards Gala Dinner at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

Other notable winners were Zimbabwean Dr Lawrence Musaba (Lifetime Achievement Award) Florence Nsubuga (Outstanding Woman in Power/Water) and Kenya’s KenGen.

Other awards went to Project SWAA, Ackermans, and UGU Engineering Solutions (South Africa) for the Energy/Water Efficiency Project of the Year.

African Community Project of the Year was awarded to ACWA Power (South Africa) for the Bockport CSP project.

Kenya also provided winners in the form of KenGen, which scooped both the Clean Energy Project of the Year for the 280MW Olkaria Geothermal Power Expansion Project and the Africa Power Utility of the Year.

The Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project won Zambia’s Zambezi River Authority Collaboration of the Year.

Ethekwini Municipality of South Africa won Municipality accolade of the Year while African Water Utility of the Year went the way of Uganda’s National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, was among the attendees that graced the black-tie event.

The awards dinner are among the highlights of the African Utility Week, arguably the biggest event in the power and water industries in the continent.
