Kenya athletes aim to bounce back in Shangai
from MARIA MACHARIA in Nairobi, Kenya
Nairobi, (CAJ News) – AFTER a disappointing outing at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays championships in The Bahamas, Kenya have set its sight on reestablishing itself as a major force in the upcoming Diamond League in Shanghai and Doha.
Although Athletics Kenya (AK) is yet to announce its squads, the East African nation has made some thorough preparations, especially in both men and women’s 5, 000 metres ahead of the Shangai leg on Sunday.
The highly-anticipated races here are the 5 000m Jiayin Mini Diamond Race for Women and the 5000m version for men.
Kenya is expected to receive a stiff challenge from Ethiopia, their perennial rivals in the track and field events.
Though the Diamond League in Shanghai would have other fields such as Triple Jump, Discus Throw Men, Shot Put Women and High Jump Men, the main focus will be on the athletics field.
