CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – THE newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer of Eskom, Brian Molefe, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the opening day of the upcoming African Utility Week in Cape Town.

The event begins on Tuesday at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) in South Africa.

Organizers said the industry had welcomed the appointment of Molefe during a challenging time in the sector and were honoured that he has chosen African Utility Week to share his vision for the energy future.

“We also look forward to welcoming some 5 000 power and water professionals to our conference and exhibition and turn the Mother City into Africa’s energy capital for this week,” said event director, Evan Schiff.

The event also features 250 exhibitors, 190 speakers, eight conferences, free technical workshops on the expo floor, three high-profile plenary sessions and the coveted industry awards gala dinner.

Meanwhile, Molefe will also attend the Utility CEO Forum at African Utility Week where he will meet African counterparts from countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Ghana, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The forum brings together executives from Africa’s leading utilities to discuss pressing topics within the industry and to accelerate cross-border collaboration, development plans and the advancement of regional centres of excellence throughout Africa.

Eskom is a longstanding partner of African Utility Week.

The Department of Energy recently also committed to a three-year partnership with the conference and exhibition while United States President Barack Obamas Power Africa initiative is the event’s country partner.

The City of Cape Town is the host city.

Spintelligent, leading Cape Town-based trade exhibition and conference organiser, and the African office of Clarion Events Ltd, based in the UK, organize African Utility Week and Clean Power Africa.
