NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – RWANDA is set to host this year’s annual Council of East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup.

Dates are yet to be confirmed.

CECAFA Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye, confirmed the country as hosts of the tournament that has previously been cancelled owing to financial challenges.

In the absence of sponsorship, Rwanda agreed to meet the obligations that go with hosting of such a tournament by providing free accommodation, transport for as well as meet prize money for the participating nations.

Musonye said the burden would be shared with competing national teams meeting their own airfares as well as contributing towards the services of match officials.

The rotational annual regional football tournament failed to take place in 2014 when Ethiopia withdrew in the last minute citing the huge financial constraints that go with hosting of such huge tournaments, among them citing the issue of poor stadia.

In 2013, Kenya successfully hosted the CECAFA in Nairobi, which they easily won.
