PRETORIA, (CAJ News) – THE South African Premiership race has been blown wide open following the midweek matches played across the country.

The biggest shock was at the Harry Gwala Stadium where a stunning goal by Maritzburg United’s Zimbabwean leftback condemned leaders Kaizer Chiefs to a heartbreaking defeat.

He scored with his first touch from the bench late in the game to give his side a one-nil win.

Elsewhere, Mamelodi Sundowns closed the gap between them and Chiefs with a 5-0 defeat of visiting Polokwane City at Loftus in Pretoria.

Zimbabwean winger Khama Billiat starred with a brace.

Fellow countryman Cuthbert Malajila continued his brilliant form with a goal as did Liberian ace, Anthony Laffor, and Rodney Ramagalela.

Chiefs have an eight-point lead at the top.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits could not keep pace with the chasing pack, their title hopes ending in defeat against bottom side Amazulu.

Old warhorse Orlando Pirates enhanced its mathematical chances with a comfortable victory over Chippa United.
